The median price for detached single family homes in Indio was $327,990 for July 2018. This represents a year-over-year July increase of +9.7% and an increase from the 2011 low of +106.9%. In fact, Palm Springs is the only valley city where the median home price exceeds the 2006 high, albeit by a nominal amount (+1.3%). However, the median home price is still off the 2006 high by -13.8%.
The median price for attached homes homes (condos and town homes) in Indio was $225,000 for July 2018. This represents a year-over-year July increase of +37.5% and an increase from the 2011 low of +46.0%. However, the median home price is still off the 2006 high by -25.6%.
It's still possible to buy a condo near the Empire Polo Grounds and all the events that entails in the low $100,000's.
Indio started as a railroad town in the latter 1800's. Though located in the Colorado Desert, part of the larger Sonoran Desert, Indio is heavily irrigated and developed into an agricultural region shortly thereafter.
Today Indio is still responsible for a large percentage of the nation's date crop, but is likely best known for the music festivals that occur at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Festival. The Empire Polo Club hosts Sunday polo matches at noon and 2 p.m. in season from late December through the end of March. General admission is free to all of the polo games. There is a $20 per car parking fee for General Admission and tailgating on Sundays.
